Antarctic Tasmania Midwinter Festival
Hobart Ports Corporation is a sponsor of the Antarctic Tasmania Midwinter Festival held in June each year. The festival showcases and celebrates Hobart's Antarctic community and cultural heritage.
Through many of its programs, the festival increases awareness of Tasmania's Antarctic links and therefore contributes to Tasmania's unique brand. This year Hobart Ports will be participating in the "Schools Program" and will highlight the evolution of the port and the major role it has played in the link with the Antarctic.
Melbourne-to-Hobart yacht races
The Port of Hobart provides an excellent example of how an Australian port delivers world standard services and facilities to its customers while at the same time allowing tourists and locals the opportunity to enjoy the city’s waterfront.
While the port has a high commercial profile, many people identify Hobart through events such as the Sydney and Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Races. For many years yachts in the famous races have berthed at Constitution Dock but in recent years visitors to the waterfront have been able to view the yachts from the modern Kings Pier Marina.
Australian Wooden Boat Festival
The Australian Wooden Boat Festival, which attracts exhibitors from throughout Australia and around the world, firmly places Hobart on the international wooden boat calendar alongside Brest in France.
The biennial event on Hobart’s waterfront features canoes, dinghies, yachts, motor vessels, work boats and tall ships that celebrates the unique qualities of wooden boats and their rich maritime history.
Southern Cross Young Achiever Award
The Southern Cross Young Achiever Arts Award is sponsored by Hobart Ports Corporation. It is one of seven categories presented in the awards that recognise the achievements of young people.
Supporting young achievement in the arts sits very comfortably within Hobart Ports’ desire to support the community and recognises some of the state’s finest and most talented young people.
Cruise and Navy ship visits
Hobart Ports has actively worked to enhance Hobart’s reputation as a first-class destination for cruise ships. The ‘meet and greet’ program has been well received by cruise ship management, passengers and crew. Hobart Ports is a member of the Cruise Tasmania consortium of ports.
Visits to the Port by United States and Australian naval vessels are also actively encouraged. A favourite stopover of American ships in particular, Hobart Ports assists with the management of logistical issues and the provision of services for navy personnel to ensure their stay in the city is an enjoyable one.
