George
and Jill Mure at Constitution Dock, Hobart. More than just establishing
Mure’s Fish House, which grew into Mures fish Centre, but a way
of life.
George Mure caught his first fish, a trout, in
his uncle’s lake
in England when he was six. He was hooked forever on fish and fishing,
working with Government authorities for better ways to manage fishery,
working on behalf of all restaurant owners in Tasmania for new standards,
lifting health standards and generally uplifting the image of eating
out in Tasmania. As his wife Jill writes: “He was a poet and a
family man who lived for others.”
