Chris
Stucki and Meredy Manion, photographed at the Bernacchi monument,
Hobart wharves. Both are veterans of Antarctica.
Working as a fitter and turner in Zambia,
Chris Stucki met a nurse. They met up again in England and
married. In the meantime Chris had attended hotel and restaurant
school in Zurich. The couple immigrated to Tasmania, and
after working at what became Mure’s Fish House,
Chrisa opened Stucki’s, later expanding into the William Tell.
Then followed a stint supplying Antarctic bases. Now retired to Tea
Tree, he has opened Stucki’s Farmhouse.
Meredy
Manion worked in Antarctica as a cook — with plenty of “wonderfully
talented volunteers”. As well she learned how to play darts,
indoor football and snow golf, skipper a Zodiac, pitch a polar pyramid
tent and brew beer.
