Claudio
Alcorso, an icon in Tasmania. Founded Moorilla Estate in Hobart, and
thereby hangs a tale.
From The Wind You Say
by Claudio Alcorso, 1993: “When
I casually mentioned my intention of planting a vineyard, all my friends
told me that I had no chance. Their reaction was automatic: South Australia
was right for vineyards, therefore Tasmania must be wrong...Late in
1947 I went to have a look at the land at Berriedale. It was a case
of love at first sight, but I did not anticipate that within a few
years my roots would go down so deep into that soil.”
